Half Marathon

Did it ! On Friday Steve phoned me to tell me Bernarnd from Caxton had got a place that I could use. So I ran in the name of Javier Diaz. Met Virginia at about 8.35am and Carol came about 9.10. Also ran with a guy called Paul, who knows loads of Caxton people. Ran with both of them at first and then Paul and then myself then Paul again. MY time was 1.59.03 seconds on my watch. will be interested to see what time Javier Diaz did according to the officials. It wasn´t perfect, as at first I was running and keeping up with Carol, then with Paul and got tired faster than I would want. But did finish. Carol was 1.46 and Virginia about 1.53. Olly Lumby babysat and Steve was in London. Next run on the agenda is 10 km Pedralba in January. Carol is up for 25km Serra next weekend. Recieved the great news that Michelle is pregnant.

Next couple of goals

1) Do half marathon in about 1 hour 50mins, ambitious for me.

Sun 21st Nov.

2) Do Penya de Quita with GR10 and complete all of GR10. Even if I keep the same number of rests and also have a short one as I ascend the shoulder. Need to manage my energy intake better, as I was hungry.

By end of Dec. puente = Dec 8th

One week until half marathon, 15th Nov. 2010

On Saturday at the very strange time of 2pm, I went for the quitte big test run to see if I can do the half. Did Penya de quita with a rest before the ramp. Then up the Pico de aguila with a rest before the up and at the tree had to have some energy, sugar drink. Down the Gr10 steps. Did about 1 hr 30. Had one stop too many but felt OK. still had energy in my legs as I ran through the paella area. Reasonably pleased.

Ambitions for the coming week.

Come on to blog a few times !

A run on Sunday of some sort. The cross, village, monastery.

Mon Yr 10 parents evening and may have to go to El Corte Ingles to change clothes.

Tue will be tired.

Wed. short run. or BIG mountain run e.g. Penya de quita AND GR10 in the dark in reverse.

Thur recover.

GR10 and Playa Pucol.

On Wednesday did a fabulous GR10 session. At the top the sunset over the Calderona hills was stunning. Then I ran further and saw dusk over the med. Then the next day I did Playa Pucol from the station. Again it was 48 minutes, is it really only 8 km ? I thought I was running really fast. But that only gives me a speed I did the marathon at

Training for half marathon

Thursday evening, Tom was in Karate and Jack in football. I ran almost 10 Km in 48 mins, though I do need to workout exactly what this distance is. Train station down to beach and up back. I really pushed myself. I kept watching my heart rate and on the way up kept it quite high about 170. Felt really tired at the end of it. Though good. I need to do 15 KM next. onthe road but in between I´ll do hill stuff.

Sunday 17 October 2010

So there are about 5 weeks before the half marathon. This week I´m going to do at least; Tuesday about 10 - 15 KM using the Pucol to beach circuit. I would prefer to do 15 KM but bascially 10 is the min. Got a feeling I´ve parents eveniong Wed. and the following one. So Thur. will do a hill run, Penya de quita. And the weekend I will decide that before the WE. I want to aim for less than 2 hours for the half. 1.55.

GR 10 again

glad I did it as I was not feeling great before, but felt good doing it, a little low on energy, as in had not eaten enough, but my body felt lighter. Met Mado y novio on the way up ! She is often in these hills. Did really well. Now Lisa is going, I am going to do some things with Carol. The first thing is the Valencian half. round about Nov. 11 or 21. Need to get a plan together for that. Need to plan doing the Pucol to beach circuit. Need to start with about 15 KM. duriong the week. Need to start facing the fact that it is getting dark. High tech. head torch out you
come

Tuesday 12 October 2010

Aims for this week;

Wed need to go to running shop, so back at 6.45. Could do monastery or cross.
Thur . Hairdresser at 6pm - no run,
Fri - Segorbe leave school at 5.15pm
Sat - Do GR10 in it´s entirety.
October 12 th, Puente. raining. Went for a run to the village in the rain. Good effort, as I ran up, I didn´t feel I was running up. So that is pretty good. I had paid to run in Manolo´s run in Almenara. But didn´t do it, dreaded the 17 Km hill run so didn´t. Need runas though. Need aims and targets.
Yes lac d`oo but that isn´t me. But I was even higher than that and running down in the ran. Of course I had ran up.
BAck again after too long a break. Did some good runs in Luchon, in the French pyrenees. Especially 2 .5 hours (30 min walk) from Superbagneres to Lac dóo. Steve and the kids were there waiting for me. It rained from the col. The run up to the col was very difficult. It was day 3 of time of the month, so naturally it was difficult. From the col running in the rain was interesting. Cold and a little intimidating, running very high at 2,000 metres with virtually no clothes on, a peaked hat helped. My ipod almost died. I had the common sense to switch it off. Another great run was the one along past loads of cows. Cannot remember the name. But have ambitions to do 2/3 hours along that ridge and then down to the camp site. Since the pyrenees have more stamina due to more haemoglobin. Ran with Lisa, after she cycled. Only pico de aguila, but still good.

Tuesday 20 July 2010

Mola De Segart 1 hour 44 mins

Great run ! Left at 8.10am. Jack headed off for a mountain run Pico de Aguila, then 20 lengths, then a mountain run; Pico de Aguila. I went off and did M.de Seg. I did drive to the monastery, but for about 8 months I haven´t ran for over 1 hour 10 mins and this time I did 1 hour 44 min, so I did about 50 % more than recently normal. I stopped before the very steep incline up the Mola. Going up I stopped twice. and off course the normal stop at the col. The Mola is 566m in height and my starting point is below 100m so I ascended about 450m. I´m pleased. Jack was astounding he did his triathalon. Then this evening about 7pm he cycled the Pico de Aguila again with Nacho. Jack is hugely fired up. I´m sure I was helped because I took some orange juice with sugar added. Before when I have done this I´ve been on the point of fainting on the run down. this time despite little previous practise for this run I was bombing it down past the cross. Of course all day I`ve been exhausted. But I am very pleased.

The Cross With Steve

Wed. 9 th June - 35 mins 2 stops

A good run in terms of doing it and also at a good speed, especially down and at the end past Victor´s.

It was a surprise as I was intending to go alone, but Steve asked me what I was going to do and as it the the cross, (not too far ) he decided to come along and we left the kids on their own. Anyhow having Steve with me was a good encouragement.

It would be nice if we went together in the mornings and left the kids on their own.

Wednesday 9 June 2010

And recently...

Well recently I´ve again suffered from a bad back. I went on Monday night up the GR10 fronm the carpark. I rested half way up and then at the top and desended down the Pico de Aguila.

In general feeling warn out which I´m associating with my 41 years. I know that my weight plays a part and I´ve been trying to cut down and my weight is now at 9 stone 12 or 10, it has got to 9, 9 But for me it is as always a question of committment. I simply don´t do it enough.

Friday 14 May 2010

Up the cross after bad neck pain

First run for about 10 days. Went to IKEA on Saturday with Ma. Carmen and Cathy and developed a terrible neck pain.

So the run was yet again, hard, But I didn´t give in and made a big effort running down especially around Victors. So am pleased with myself. Steve is off with Bill walking from Gatova and will be out of the house for 24 hours. So if I manage a small run is questionable. Stretching stretching is needed.

Up the cross after bad neck pain

My First Runs With Lisa

Monday 26/4/10, Lisa and I ran up the GR10 and we did it all. I had pushed myself hard and felt quite wiped out at the end. On Wednesday Lisa cycled up to S. Espiritu with Steve and we then ran the Penya de Quita. It was great but the weather was quite hot and I again felt really wiped out. Without that commitment I wouldn´t have done two hard runs as I am now. Anyway it was very interesting and good for me. Lisa seemed to enjoy it. Hopefully we´ll get to run together quite a bit. The heat could play a part !

Friday 23 April 2010

Up the Cross, Thursday 22/4/10

Up the cross, my old faithful. 45 minutes and I get a good hit of the mountains. Did fine, though not as good as it could be. Going past Elena´s house I felt tierd, but I had run fast down the camino. On Monday I´m running with Lisa for the first time. On Wednesday she cycled with Steve. I´m aiming to do the GR10 if she is bursting with energy I could send her up the cross as well. On May 1st There´s a 16.5 KM run. Can I do it ? Have before.

Wednesday 21 April 2010

Didn´t do it

Didn´t do a little run. It is my night tonight and it is raining so we´ll see. If it´s fine I´ll do Penya de quita and then if ti rains monastery or cross. Trying to sort IKEA trip. Kids need to be looked after.

Yes I have been running

Yes I have been running, but not as dedicated as I should have. I´m happy with last night as I did get out. OK so it was only around the block, Terry, past Alberto´s and down the hill. I did this twice, which was 30 mins.

I´m going to try and do a 20 min run tonight

Saturday 3 April 2010

Have been out a reasonable amount. Just not documented it. Out today. GR10 with Pico de Aguila. Didn´t feel amazing, but this is my second run since skiing. Did the cross on Monday. Soon, after Easter am meant to be going with Lisa.

Friday 26 February 2010

GR10

ran up Gr10. Felt bad going up because I was thinking about running with Lisa and the pressure was making me feel like hyperventilating. I´m sure my heart was going wild. Anyhow the good news is, I ran along and down very well indeed and felt good.

On Thur. the day when Lisa was meant to run with me she couldn´t and so I didn´t go again, as it was very windy. But feel very enthused and want to do a good run at the weekend. Maybe Mola de Segart. If I keep mtyself syked up. Got to focus on it.

Feel really good. End of March got the Vall D´uxo run 13 km hi8ll running. I hope Steve will come.

Monday 15 February 2010

My first 10 KM, Pedralba

54 mins and 30 secs. Quite pleased as I didn´t feel great at start. But after the ups there were, naturally, a few downs. And at 8 km I started to speed up and except for an up in the village I was running at a good speed. Hopefully will do it next year and will shave off a few minutes.

I was pleased after about 8 km !!

Next race 28th March Vall dÚxo. Hopefully Steve will come.

Tuesday 2 February 2010

Another breakthrough. The reason I class this as a break through is for two reasons. Firstly I went at half past seven. I thought I was getting out at half five, but I had to drive the car into Pucol, as the break lights were remaining on. This put me into a huge bad mood, as it is so deadly boring. But I did it and fixed the situation. Got back with Steve and the kids from Karate and went out up The Cross in the dark and the cold. So the second reason it was a breakthrough was that I did The Cross in the dark. It is a bit tricky becuase it is hard to judge the height and angle of the rocks you run up or down, so getting hurt is more likely. Does this mean I´ll have to do runs after parents evenings ? Yes !

Thursday 21 January 2010

Sunday 17 /1/2010

Ran up the Penya de Quita via the bar. It went OK. Not the best I´ve felt, but not the worst. I overtook about 5 cyclists going up the first mountain track section. They seemed a bit surprised, but they never appeared again, even though I rested before the ramp. About 1 hour 10 mins.

Wednesday 20 January 2010

So this is the famous Santo Espiritu Monastery

Wednesday 13 January 2010

FABULOUS Breakthrough.

A dark grey drizzlly evening and I ran up the GR10 in reverse with a headtorch. The truth is I did go up slowly, but the fact is that I did do it. My first run in the mountains in the dark and it was slightly unpleasant conditions, so it was quite inpressive. ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Yeah yeah yeah !!!!!!!!!! COOL.

Runs in 2010

OK so ran on Mon 4/1 in the drizzle to the village. Then up the Cross Sunday 10/ 1 about lunchtime Felt really good. Magical.

Sunday 3 January 2010

It´s 2010

Yes it is and have done 1 run so far in London, Stockwell to be precise. Along the Wandsworth Rd, crashed into a guy on a bike when I did a u turn. No injuries. That was in the evening of 1/1/10 and it was cold, dark, very uninviting. Only 30 mins or so. Yesterday the 2nd we travelled all day, with a 2 hour delay at Gatwick. Today I did loads, but no run. Ahhhhh. Don´t feel too good because of no run. MUST go tomorrow. MUST MUST. HAve to go shopping for TV... Got more work to do. Cleaning to do...

Need to work out which runs to do this year. So hard from Spanish websites. Still no excuses.
